Walter Diemer Essay

Walt E. Diemer (5 January 1904—9 January 1998) was an accountant and inventor of bubble gum. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa, Diemer was working since an accountant by Fleer in 1926 if the company president sought to cut costs by causing their own chewing gum base. You�re able to send founder, Honest Henry Fleer, had previously made a batch of bubble gum in 1906 which this individual called " Blibber Blubber", but it was too gross and easily pennyless. Although an accountant by transact, Diemer loved to experiment with bubble gum recipes in the spare time. To do so , this individual accidentally found a unique recipe. The bubble gum was pink because it was the only food coloring in the factory, which is the reason most gum today is red.[1] Compared to common chewing gum, the gum was less gross, would not go through the face, but stretched more readily. Diemer found the possibilities, and using a salt water taffy wrapping equipment, wrapped a hundred pieces of his creation to evaluate market within a local mom-and-pop candy store. Costing one any amount of money a piece, the gum soldout in one day time. Fleer commenced marketing the new gum while " Dubble Bubble" and Diemer him self taught salesmen to hit bubbles. This kind of helped them to demonstrate just how Dubble Bubble differed from all other gnawing gums. Like a penny a piece, sales of Dubble Bubble surpassed US$ 1 . a few million in the first 12 months. Diemer did not patent his invention and competition shortly arose while bubble bubble gum became a well known and inexpensive deal with during the 1930s. According to his second wife, Florencia, Walter Diemer never received royalties intended for his invention but this individual did not mind. She also explained he oversaw construction of bubble gum plants in Philadelphia and Barcelona, Italy, and went around the world promoting the gum. He tied to Fleer for many years, eventually reaching the position of senior vice president as well as a person in the Plank of Owners of Fleer Corporation.
